The official ranks
Official taxi ranks operate outside both terminals: the T1 rank is on the arrivals road (around the Zone 3 area) and the T2 rank is around the Zone 20 area. Both are staffed at all times, so a car is available around the clock. As you leave arrivals you exit onto the kerb directly in front of your terminal, and the rank is a few steps away. There is nothing to book and no booking fee when you walk up and take the next car.
Metered fares, not surge
Every rank taxi is an NTA-licensed SPSV vehicle running on Ireland's regulated national maximum tariff, so there is no surge pricing. The official Dublin Airport page states €30 to €45 to the city centre depending on time and day. In practice, daytime fares between about 08:00 and 20:00, Monday to Saturday, are commonly around €25 to €35, with higher tariffs at night and on Sundays and bank holidays. Hailing at the rank or on the street adds nothing, while a phone or app booking adds a booking fee of roughly €1 to €3.

Uber, Bolt and FreeNow
All three ride-hailing apps operate at Dublin Airport, but Ireland works differently from the UK: Uber only dispatches licensed taxis, so there is no private-driver UberX. The car you book on Uber is the same NTA-licensed taxi you would find at the rank, on the identical regulated meter, plus the app booking fee. Bolt and FreeNow also dispatch licensed taxis only. FreeNow is Ireland's biggest taxi app and lets you book several days ahead, which suits an airport run, while Bolt often has lower booking fees and promo codes. App-hailed and pre-booked cars do not use the rank: their designated pickup point is the short-term car park, Zone 18, for both terminals.
When a taxi beats the alternatives
If you are two or more people with luggage, a taxi to the city often costs about the same per head as the coach once you have paid separate fares, and it takes you to the door rather than a city-centre stop. It is also simple late at night, when taxis run around the clock. If you are travelling solo and light, the cheaper options are on the public transport page, where a TFI bus starts at about €2.60 and Dublin Express reaches the centre in as little as 14 minutes. If someone is driving you instead, compare the drop-off charges first.
